Office Inspiration: Loft Office Nook

We finished up the moving process early this week with the completion of our “office nook” in the loft. The simple, clean office area is a dream come true—and a nice improvement from my previously cluttered office.

I bought these recycled magnetic strips on Etsy. They were originally meant to be a wedding detail, but I had always planned to use them in the office after the wedding was over (a lesson for all of you brides out there—buy wedding details that you can reuse in your home later, such as simple vases and frames). And yes, even the field notes were left over from the package of three that we bought to write our vows in.

And if you love the desk (I know I do), you can find it at World Market.

Coffee + Photography = The Perfect Gift

For my birthday last week, I received the most amazing gift from Leticia and Phil Gomes. From the outside, you would swear it’s a lens, but it’s actually a coffee mug. In fact, I just recently bought the exact same lens, and it looks so real that when my brother-in-law was over and saw it sitting out on the kitchen table, he questioned why I wasn’t more careful about putting my expensive lenses in a safe place.

And even better, it’s from Photojojo, whose founder, Amit Gupta, started Jelly—an organization that has connected me with some of the most incredible people I know (over coffee, no less!).

Our New Place

We’re finally starting to settle into our colorful new place in East Lansing, Michigan. As a photographer, I’m thrilled to be living in a home with such beautiful natural light in every room.

Our move was surprisingly smooth, thanks to help from my Dad, my sister, Adriane, and my brother-in-law, Christopher. I can’t imagine how we would have made another winter move without their help.

We’ll start with the kitchen—an important part of our lives. Jeff actually put the microwave up in the crawl space in the loft to see if we could get by without it. That touch of extra effort definitely makes me appreciate the food I’m eating.

Romulus loves being king of the castle and staring out on his kingdom. His kingdom clearly still needs a lot of photos to fill the blank walls (still a work in progress).

The loft makes for cozy reading in the sunlight on weekend mornings. It has already become our little escape.

Heading back downstairs to the bedroom.

And finally, the bathroom, complete with a retro radio.

10 Women + A Fun Little Photography Project

Ten women + two fantastically talented stylists (hair + makeup) + one photographer + an evening of champagne and laughs = one fun Saturday night and a whole bunch of great photos to show off the work of Jennie Rose Stearns and Antonette Bitonti.

I was on the coed cheerleading team with Jennie Rose and Antonette in college (as well as Kelly, third below, Ashley, fourth below, and Marcie, seventh below), and I when they told me they were putting together an evening of hair, makeup and photography to build on their portfolios, I knew I had to be a part of it (I even took my own turn in front of the camera).

Oh, hey! It’s me in my wedding dress acting like a goof.

And below, we have the lovely Antonette (left) and Jennie Rose (right). Thanks for letting me be a part of your project!
