Here’s the thing about going on maternity leave as a creative business owner—you can never really turn the business off completely (Arden was born on December 29, and early January is the single busiest time of the year for booking weddings), but you do have to choose which things you’ll let slide while adjusting to life with a new little person. In my case, blogging was the first thing to go, and while I love the work that I’ve already shared with you in the past, there is so much more that I want to share. So forgive me for being a bit late on all of these amazing weddings and engagement sessions (Dana and Dan’s was clearly in the fall, and here we are back around to spring again already), but better late than never! Get ready to see a lot of fun new work—and as always, you can follow me on Instagram and Facebook to see the very latest and get a peek into my personal life.Now onto Dana and Dan. If you do a session with me, a few things are pretty much guaranteed. I’m going to get you in motion so that you’ll feel and look more natural, and I’m going to try to give you prompts that will make you laugh (usually by having you say things to each other). If you can get sentimental at some point, we have the perfect trifecta. Dana and Dan proved that they were up for anything, and I love that they showed different sides of their personalities and relationship. They’re getting married in June at the Frankenmuth Brewery, and I know it’s going to be amazing.

I got together with Ariel and Mike at Lincoln Brick park last November, and we were lucky enough to walk into the perfect fall evening for their engagement session. These two met at Michigan State (which happens to be the same place where I met Jeff). They’re getting married this July at Ariel’s aunt and uncle’s property—a small Michigan vineyard. I can’t wait to catch up, and I’m so glad that I won’t be seven months pregnant next time I take their photos 🙂

I knew I liked Jenna as soon as I talked to her on the phone for the first time. I’m pretty sure we were still driving back from the lake after taking Zel out for her first sailboat excursion, and Jenna was totally patient with the chaos of my evening that night as we made plans for her wedding with Derek on the shores of Lake Michigan up in Muskegon this June.

And no, that’s not an optical illusion. Derek is really, really tall. Remind me to bring my step stool to the wedding 🙂 Jenna and Derek, I can’t wait to see you again soon! And I’m SO excited that your wedding is going to be in Muskegon. That’s our “someday we’ll get a sailboat and go up there as often as possible” dream place.

Old Town Lansing has become a favorite location for me over the years, both as an urban area with a ton of quick variety for mini sessions and as a place to go with my family. Zelda and I have been going to a music class with Melissa Sigh’s School of Music every Friday in Old Town for almost a year now, and we often find ourselves at various classes at Mother and Earth.

I kept catching lucky breaks with weather in November—this session took us all the way to mid-November, but you’d never know looking at the Jordan and Kourtnee. These two are naturals in front of the camera.
